We found more than 6 inches of new snow at Silver Crest when we arrived this morning. We made several passes with the roller and are slowly getting stumps and rocks safely covered. There are still areas to watch out for, but most trails have good snow cover with hopefully more snow on the way this weekend.
Come to Silver Crest Cross Country Ski Area on Saturday, December 15 to celebrate the start of another great year of winter recreation in the Little Belt Mountains! The Silver Crest Trails Association has planned a fun- filled day of skiing, snowshoeing, live music and delicious, warming refreshments. The event is from 10AM to 3PM and is free of charge.
Beginner skiers and snowshoers are welcome. Snowshoes will be provided by the Lewis and Clark National Forest and the Montana Wilderness Association (just bring a pair of warm boots). Guided snowshoe hikes will be offered throughout the day. Big Horn Wilderness Specialists owners Beth and Chris Leatham will be on hand with classic and skate ski equipment for you to try. Instruction in both classic Nordic skiing and skate skiing techniques will be available. Experienced skiers are encouraged to bring their favorite skis and play a round of Nordic Trivia for prizes and glory.
Live music will be provided by the talented Great Falls musician Marias Hale. Listen to her while enjoying hot coffee or cocoa and hot Harvest Soup from Groundworks Farm. Check out the grooming equipment used by the Kings Hill Grooming Association and SCTA and warm up by the fire at the trailhead. Marshmallows and roasting sticks will be on hand!
It’s going to be a great way to kick off winter at Silver Crest — see you there!
